Modern life is characterised by the metropolis and the urban. Since 2008 for the first time in history over 50% of the world’s population live in urban areas. This increasing trend means that greater parts of rural areas are being zoned for industry. Inhabiting a contested space between rural and industry The Good Hatchery takes advantage of the connective powers of our global age and offers an opportunity to explore alternative uses for this space. Following in the legacy of the small- holding and the multi-purpose farm The Good Hatchery looks at how we can re-engage with the landscape of Ireland in a practical way and imagine alternative methods of living with and understanding land through contemporary practice.
